A German Regence silver beaker, of conical form, engraved with regence ornamentation, domed, profiled base. Indistinct maker's mark, presumably Johann III Mittnacht (1735–1758). Augsburg town mark C. 1735–1737. Weight 121 g. H. 11.5 cm.
Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Secretary of Legation in Vienna, Berlin, Moscow and Warzaw in the 1920s, later Counsellor of the Legation in Berlin, Paris, Turkey, Israel and Greece, and finally Consul General in Hamburg from 1954. Hoffmeyer's interest in collecting silver was pervasive and he acquired items in all the cities he lived. Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.
Wear due to age and use. The reverse indistictly engraved with initials M?X? One larger and some minor dents. Sligthly dented toprim. Base rim dented.
