Unique semi-circular table with patinated steel frame. Two interchangeable beech tops with square cork inlays. Designed 1978. Manufactured 1970s by PP Møbler. H. 68 cm. Tops: L. 228 cm. D. 139 cm./L. 174 cm. D. 112 cm. (3)

Provenance: Made to order for the restaurant Kanalen, Christianshavn, Copenhagen. Used in the restaurant until now.

The restaurant Kanalen (The Canal) was one of the final interiors that Poul Kjærholm participated in. The narrow room and the limited space, combined with the unique location, placed great demands on a flexible furnishing. The semi-circular table that stood at one end of the building combines the round table’s option of always being able to seat “one more” with the square table’s economic use of space with a possible placement along the wall. The two sizes of semicircles further increase this flexibility. At the same time the one semi-circular section of the table functions on its own, when not in use, and is therefore suspended on the wall, as a clear graphic form in the room.
