The company Maison Raingo was originally founded in Paris in 1813 by Zacharie Joseph Raingo (1775–1847), who came from Mons in present day Belgium. Later joined in Paris by his brothers, the Raingo company became one of the most noted manufacturers of clocks in Paris. In 1824 the company was appointed purveyor to the king and from 1860 the company was also appointed purveyor to Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie.
