Mogens Koch (b. Frederiksberg 1898, d. Copenhagen 1992)

A unique Brazilian rosewood chest of drawers, front with fold-down writing leaf and two doors below. Interior with noumerous drawers in five different sizes. Fittings and handles of brass. Made 1937 by cabinetmaker N.C. Jensen Kjær. H. 139.7 cm. W. 129.5 cm. D. 50/68.5 cm.

Provenance: Made on special order in 1937 for merchant Hans Chr. Holm, Copenhagen. Copy of the original file card and correspondance about the furniture (from Mogens Koch a.o.) included. Only this example of the wider model with a total of 45 drawers and doors at the lower part of the piece was made made. This unique piece is a variant of an earlier model and with 29 drawers and no doors below that was made in two examples in oak and Cuban mahogany.

These filing cabinets by Mogens Koch must be counted as among the finest pieces of handcrafted Danish furniture of the 20th. Century.
