A bangle of silver-plated brass set with an indented motif. Diam. app. 6 cm. W. app. 5 cm. Weight app. 140 g. Signed Asger Jorn. Made by Max Müller. Circa 1960–70.
"An overlooked, and for most people unknown, part of Jorn's artistic oeuvre is the very personal jewellery he made, designed and had produced for the women in his life; three wives, as well as daughters, sisters and lovers. Jorn's jewellery was, unlike many artists of his time, not made in a series intended for sale but created and given straight from the heart. Intimacy, love, separation and strife are motifs and driving forces in Jorn's jewellery production.
Right from his early years in Paris during the 1930s, Jorn created a long line of completely original and personalized pieces of jewellery that often had a highly unique expression. The inspiration for the jewellery came from many sources: impressions from the lively art scene of the 1930s with people such as Miró, Picasso, Legér and Paul Klee. The inspiration also came from the stylized expression of ritual masks and finally from the more symbolic and erotically charged imagery of Surrealism."
