An English brass lantern clock, top with open bell, dial with foliate engraved centre and one iron hand. Signed J. Windmills London. First part of the 18th century. H. 40 cm.
Joseph Windmills was maker in 1702–1723. He has always been a highly regarded maker of clocks and watches. In 1710 he took over the contract to care for the clocks at the Tower of London from Thomas Tompion.
