A gentleman's wristwatch of steel. Model Submariner, ref. 6204. Mechanical movement with automatic winding, cal. A260. Black dial with white hour markers and steel hands. Rolex bracelet of steel with folding clasp. Circumference 17.5 cm. Watch diameter 37 mm. 1954.
The Rolex Submariner dates back to 1953–1954, the first reference being 6204. While the Submariner may be the most iconic Rolex ever made, the model was directly inspired by the Rolex Turn-O-Graph reference 6202. At its initial release, scuba diving was still a relatively new activity, the 6204 was the first wristwatch considered to be guaranteed a water-resistance of up to 100 meters during a time where the notion of commercially available wristwatches being able to function at such depths was non-existent. The present example features a ''Stretch-Rivet'' Oyster bracelet and beautifully patinated casing fitted with an early service dial.
Middle case no. 6204. Case back no. 6204. Movement no. 09979. Serial no. 988XXX. End link no. 65. Folding clasp no. 54.
