A painting by Louis Valtat is a rarity in the Nordic art market, nevertheless this painting has been in a Danish private collection for decades. Valtat never confined himself to a single artistic direction. He was part of several avant-garde movements and can be seen as a Neo-Impressionist, inspired by both Fauvism and Pointillism in the creation of his own distinctive visual language.

One of his most famous motifs – which he painted repeatedly – is the coastline near Agay. This captivating view of the shimmering sea, as seen in this painting from 1902, is a perfect example of Valtat’s recurring depiction of this specific stretch of coast. This vibrant landscape opens up to the viewer, offering a glimpse into Valtat’s artistic practice and unique visual world.
