H. Chr. Christensen, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of L. A. Ring no. 100 under the year 1887 and with the title “Landskabsstudie til Nr. 98” (Study of the landscape in no. 98). Therefore, the painting here is a study for the no. 98 in the Catalogue Raisonné, a well-known work from 1887 with the measurements 118×94 cm, entitled “Aften” (Evening). The painting shows a tired woman taking a rest in the dark, while Death (a winged skeleton) is floating above her. The incorrect date 1886 on the picture here, Ring himself put on.
