A pair of large Russian silver serving bowls, gilt interior, curved border with foliage, engraved with Cyrillic monogram for Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaievna of Russia the elder and the Russian Warrant. Karl Nikols & Plinke and Nikolaj Nikitin, assayer Alexander Nikolajevich Mitin 1857 and 1860, St. Petersburg town mark, 84 standard. Weight c. 2,026 gr. Diam. 27 cm. (2).
Provenance: Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaievna of Russia the elder (1819–1876). She was daughter of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia and first married to Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg (1817–1852) and later in 1854 she married Count Gregori Stroganov (1824–1879). Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaievna became grandmother to Prince Peter of Oldenburg (1868–1924), married to Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna of Russia (1882–1960).
