The finished “Beach promenade” or “The Holst daughters at Skagen Sønderstrand” with the measurements 81×163 cm, dated 1896, was sold at ABR auction 690, 2001 no. 1019, hammerprice 6.000.000 DKK.

In the 1880ies the main topic for Michael Ancher's paintings were the fishermen and their everyday life. The turning-point was “Vil han klare Pynten”, exhibited in 1880. In the 1890ies a new motif began to interest Ancher, romantic sceneries with young beautiful girls. He was inspired by the new type of summer guests visiting Skagen and also by what his painter friend P. S. Krøyer painted.
