On the stretcher a label with the following inscription (in Danish): “The present painting by Professor Carl Bloch I, the undersigned, declare to have purchased from Emil Bloch, Director of the National Gallery of Denmark or one of the Professor's other brothers. Copenhagen, November 11, 1913. H.H. Rasmussen”.
