CHURCHILL THEME
Throughout World War II, the so-called ‘siren suit’ - or boiler suit as it was known as in more peaceful times - became popular among the British, who found it practical and comfortable during the nightly German bombing raids when it was important to dress rapidly and get out of the house or apartment quickly. This simple yet comfortable one-piece garment found a lasting fan in Winston Churchill, who continued to wear it in many variations after the war - in this photograph in a tailor-made pinstripe version.
This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1952, which appears with a somewhat yellowed back. In addition, common handling marks.
