A large Russian silver tankard, gilt interior, final with robe and anchor, body chased with old-Russian ornamentation and foliage, engraved with the paddle steamer “Magdalena” and Cyrillic text: “For Alfons Alexandrovich Sebeke from the Trade Union in Nizhny Novgorod. Thank you for the Trade Union could use the ship MAGDALENA for a dinner for their Imperial Highnesses, Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich and Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, August 22 1885”. Andrei Andreiev Alexandrov, assayer A. Romanov 1885, Moscow town mark, 84 standard. Weight c. 1,325 gr. H. 34 cm.

Provenance: Acquired by present owner's Norwegian family in Stockholm in the 1960s or 1970s.
