Aage Rafn (b. 1890, d. 1953)

Extremely rare pendant and canopy of patinated bronze, mounted with crossed arms with conical opal glass shade with up-light. Made circa 1925 by Royal bronze caster Lauritz Rasmussen. Diam. 80 cm.

Provenance: Aage Rafn hence by descent in family. Model exhibited: The Danish pavilion, World Exposition. Paris, 1925. Originally designed for the representative offices at the Police Headquarters in Copenhagen, which were completed in 1924. The lamp was inspired by the ancient Roman dumbbells that justice goddess Justitia bear as a symbol of justice. When Aage Rafn a year later in 1925 was commissioned to decorated one of the three rooms at the Danish pavilion on Esplanade des Invalides the model was re-used for this exceptional interior.
