Russian sapphire and diamond pendent formed as the mitre crowned Imperial Russian double eagle, set with a round-cut yellow sapphire weighing app. 4.00 ct., encircled by numerous rose-cut diamonds, mounted in 14 kt. gold. No maker's mark. H. 2.5 cm. W. 2 cm. Original red leather, silk and velvet case, with the Russian Warrant on the lid, is enclosed. A 14 kt. gold chain from the 20th century is also enclosed. L. 40 cm.

Provenance: The pendant was originally a tie pin and a present from Tsar Nicholas II and Tsaritsa Alexandra Feodorovna of Russia to the owner's grandfather. The grandfather was a telegraph operator and available for the Russian Tsar and Tsaritsa during their stay at Fredensborg Castle in Denmark in the late 1890s. Around 1915, the tie pin was changed to the current pendant, when the telegraph operator gave it to his wife. Any maker's marks have probably been in the now removed needle.
