About buying at an auction

Catalogue

All items are assigned a lot number so both in the printed catalogue and here on our website you can find a description, an estimated price and in some cases a photograph of the relevant item.

Catalogues are published prior to the preview and can either be purchased at the auction house or through subscription.

The catalogues can also be downloaded at our website.

Preview

Previews are held prior to all auctions to allow you to examine the articles you intend to bid for more closely. There are also opportunities for getting in touch with our valuers to hear more of the condition of the article, as items at auction are bought as seen.

The dates of previews can be found, among other places, on our website next to the individual auction.

Traditional auctions are marked with

Estimate

Each lot has been allocated a price by Bruun Rasmussen’s expert valuers giving an idea of the value. Nevertheless, the estimate price is only indicative and may be both higher or lower, depending on the interest there is for the article concerned.

Condition reports

Bruun Rasmussen undertakes to provide further information about the condition of the lots if possible. This is regarded as a service for customers who are unable to make a personal inspection of the lots at the preview.

Bruun Rasmussen stresses that the information given cannot be used as the basis for complaints; complaints can only be based on the catalogue text.

Bidding

During the actual auction you either bid by clearly indicating with your hand or at some auctions by using a bidder’s card, which is handed over to you immediately prior to the auction. Both methods quickly allows the auctioneer to make eye contact.

If you are unable to attend / commission bids

Even if you are prevented from attending the auction, you can still submit your bids during the preview or by mail or fax. The person who bids for you (the commission agent) will try to purchase the item at the most favourable terms.

Commission bids can be submitted via the website directly from the page with the item you want to submit a bid for, or by completing and signing the form in the catalogue.

For administrative reasons there is a deadline for submitting bids prior to the start of an auction.
