How do you bid?

Step 1: Create an account.

In order to buy at Bruun Rasmussen on the Internet you need to register as a client with us. Once you have done so, you will be assigned a customer ID and a password.

If you are already registered as a client with Bruun Rasmussen, you should log in by entering your existing customer ID and password. If you do not have a password for your customer ID, please contact Technical Support on tel. +45 8818 1114 or e-mail support@bruun-rasmussen.dk.

We must also ask you to register your payment card/credit card details before you submit bids at Bruun Rasmussen’s online auctions. You can register using Visa, Eurocard, MasterCard and Dankort.

NB: When bidding at our online auctions for the first time it can take up to a couple of minutes to open and set up an account. Therefore you should always set yourself up as a bidder in good time before the auction for the item you want expires. This only applies to the first time you bid with the registered payment card/credit card. If it is not be possible to register your payment card before the auction deadline expires, Bruun Rasmussen cannot guarantee that your bid will be registered on time.

We require payment card/credit card details both for security reasons and to guarantee sellers a short settlement time in regards to payment.

Card and personal details will only be used if you submit a successful bid at one of Bruun Rasmussen’s online auctions, and you only need to register your personal details once – when you bid at the online auctions for the first time.

All card information will, subsequently, be stored by Nets, and it is possible to change or delete the information on Your page.

Step 2: Find the item you wish to bid for

If you are interested in a specific artist, designer or auction, the website enables you to search for these. Write what you are searching for in the search box in the top-left corner – for instance you might write Arne Jacobsen – and then view all the articles at auction, which were designed by Arne Jacobsen.

You can also carry out searches in the various categories and view all the articles for sale within the category. Remember that search results will display articles being sold at both the traditional and the online auctions. Which is which is shown at the top of the page.

Step 3: Choose the amount you wish to bid

All bids are max. bids, also known as auto bids. In other words, the bid you submit is the maximum that you wish to pay.

The system ensures that the hammer price is as low as possible, and that your bidding does not exceed the amount you specified in your bid.

If a bid has already been made for the item, the bids menu will start from the next possible bid. If no bids have been submitted for the item, the start bid will be the lowest bid in the menu. Choose the amount you wish to bid and click on Continue.

NB: If you choose to submit a bid at the last moment before the hammer falls, you risk the bid not being registered on time, and that the bid would therefore not be taken into account.

Until the hammer falls you can follow the countdown on the items page, and although we make every effort to give exact times, there are certain factors that may affect precise times.

A slow internet connection and the workload on your computer may mean that the countdown is a few seconds out of sync with the hammer price clock.

You should also remember that the fall of the hammer is always postponed, so that it does not actually fall until two minutes after the last bid. In other words, it is not possible to “pip the others at the post”.

Step 4: Confirm your bid

To avoid submitting erroneous bids, the system requests you to confirm your bid before it is finally registered. All costs associated with a successful bid will be itemized on this page.

Step 5: View your bid in the bidding history

You can view your bid in the bidding history to the right of the image of the article. Your bid is marked in bold typeface.

Here you can view when and how much has been bid for the item in question. If two bidders have submitted two identical max. bids, the one who submitted the bid first and who is at the top of the bidding history will have the bid in question.

Step 6: Your bid

You can view all the articles you have bid for by clicking on Active bids next to the Log out button or on Your page.

If your bid is not the highest, it will be marked in red.

Step 7: Extending auctions

In cases where bids are submitted for an item within two minutes of when the hammer is expected to fall, the time will be postponed to two minutes after the last bid.

Postponements will continue until a final bid has been submitted.

Step 8: Hammer price

Once the final bid has been submitted, the hammer price will now appear next to the item.

You can see if it was your bid, and if not, you can see that someone else has submitted the successful bid. If you submitted the successful bid, you will receive an e-mail informing you about it.
