Superman's Costume from 1978
Until 11 August, superhero fans and collectors have the opportunity to bid on the original costume worn by Christopher Reeve in the classic blockbuster "Superman: The Movie" from 1978. The costume was used in the film's flight scenes and represents the look that generations have associated with the iconic superhero.
Richard Donner's "Superman: The Movie" is now regarded as a cult classic and marks the beginning of the modern superhero film genre. With its special effects and Christopher Reeve's performance – where ideals and humanity converge – the movie paved the way for defining the genre. The costume up for auction stands as a symbol of this heritage and offers a rare chance to own a piece of genuine film history. The extraordinary sale is scheduled in connection with the premiere of the new Superman film "Superman: Legacy" on 11 July.
Documentation and Strong Provenance
The costume includes Superman's red cape, blue suit, trousers, yellow belt, and red boots. It bears original markings from the film production, including the inscription “Nathans-Bermans CR Fly” and labels on the boots confirming its authenticity. Accompanying the costume is documentation in the form of photographs, DVD, and catalog material from the auction house Christie’s, where it was sold back in 2001. Since then, it has been part of Nordisk Film's collection.
