Exceptional Results for International Design Auctions

Things are going well at Design auctions across the Bonhams Network.


Recently, we have seen great success across the  Bonhams Network when it comes to Modern Design. 

May 2023, for instance, saw incredible results and new world records for Otto Schulz, Josef Frank, and Carl-Axel Acking at design auctions in Paris and Stockholm.
Josef Frank: 'Flora' chests of drawers for the company Svenskt Tenn. Sold for EUR 99,129 (including buyer's premium). This is a world record for a chest of drawers by Joseph Frank.
Carl-Axel Acking: A rare model "2645" floor lamp, Bröderna Malmströms metallvarufabrik, Sweden. 1940s-50s. Sold for EUR 42,957 (including buyer's premium). This is a world record for the designer.
Hans J. Wegner: 'Crocodile Cabinet'. A patinated oak cabinet with dark polished shoes. Designed 1950, made 1950s by cabinetmaker Mikael Laursen. Sold for DKK 875,000 (including buyer's premium).
Ron Arad: A signed and numbered 'Narrow Pappardelle' carpet-chair in steel mesh, designed in 1992, model of 1995. Edition Ron Arad studio. Sold for EUR 71,455 (including buyer's premium).
Otto Schulz: A green velvet cabinet signed Otto Schulz, by Firma Boet in Gothenburg from the 1920s. Sold for EUR 83,696 (including buyer's premium). This is a new world record for the designer.
Axel Salto: A rarely offered stoneware vase modelled with stylized fruits and leaves. Signed Salto, 21381. Made 1958. Royal Copenhagen. Designed 1956. Sold for DKK 1,875,000 (including buyer's premium).
Ettore Sottsass: Barbarella, a rosewood and beech wood fall-front desk, produced by Poltronova, designed 1966. Sold for EUR 57,200 (including buyer's premium).
Ado Chale: Goutte d'eau, a sculptural cast bronze coffee table on four green lacquered metal tripod feet. Sold for EUR 94,500 (including buyer's premium).
