Art Deco & Diamonds

If you are into exclusive Art Deco jewellery, you should take a closer look at the Live Auction on 8 March, which features sparkling creations from the 1920s and onwards.

Art Deco

Vintage jewellery is in serious demand at our auctions, so at the year’s first Live Auction in Copenhagen, we will be presenting a selection of jewellery crafted in the characteristic Art Deco style. Art Deco is a style that was used within decorative art, architecture and jewellery design from the period 1910–40. The style culminated in Europe in 1925 with the “Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes”, a major art industry exhibition in Paris.

With its use of exclusive materials such as platinum and precious stones, Art Deco is often seen as an opulent and luxurious style, and is characterised by a love of geometric, trapezoidal shapes and zigzag patterns as well as marked contrasts between curved and straight lines. The discovery of King Tutankhamun’s impressive tomb in 1922 provided the art movement with a new source of inspiration.

The jewellery designers incorporated Egyptian motifs and decorative elements from India and the Far East. All these traits are very much present in the auction’s exquisite range of Art Deco jewellery.

Cartier, Diamonds and Evening Bags

The award-winning international jeweller Cartier was one the jewellery designers who embraced this style. Founded in Paris in 1847, Cartier has for more than a hundred years produced some of the world’s most exclusive jewellery and wristwatches. One of the highlights of this auction is a Cartier Art Deco diamond pendant in platinum adorned with an emerald-cut diamond of approx. 1.50 ct. and of approx. 0.80 ct. as well as numerous old-cut diamonds of approx. 6.00 ct., around 8.30 cts. in total.

The selection of Art Deco jewellery also includes a pair of ruby and diamond brooches in platinum and 14k rose gold, both adorned with numerous cabochon-cut rubies, presumed to be Burmese rubies, totalling approx. 6.00 ct., not to mention several exclusive diamond bracelets, rings, earrings and a pendant/brooch

The auction also includes an Art Deco evening bag in excellent condition by the Italian luxury brand Buccellato. The blue-black silk bag from c. 1920 closes by means of an 18k gold clasp, adorned with cabochon-cut sapphires.
