"New Nordic" Photo Art up for Auction

Nordic Photo Art at an International Level
The interest in photographic art is booming all over the world – from Paris Photo in France, Shanghai Photo in China to the recent Art Herning, an art fair for the leading galleries in Denmark, which this year had a special emphasis on art photography. At this year's first international auction in Bredgade, we also focus on the art of photography. This time we present works by some of Scandinavia's most internationally acclaimed contemporary artists – in fact, this is the largest offering of contemporary Nordic art photography at our auction house to date.
The auction includes works by Per Bak Jensen, Olafur Eliasson, Pertti Kekarainen, Adam Jeppesen, Astrid Kruse Jensen and Ebbe Stub Wittrup – all artists who in their own way have garnered international recognition. The artists in this new Nordic generation of photographers are characterized by a keen awareness of the possibilities of photography to influence the work's theme as well as its expression – with all the inherent possibilities and limitations of the photographic medium.
The Borders of Photography
The works exist, in different ways, in the space between our perception and the artistic production. The images function within a border area that touches upon our assumptions about themes that are particularly relevant both in a photographic context as well as in our modern everyday life, for instance the objective/subjective eye (Per Bak Jensen), reality and fantasy (Ebbe Stub Wittrup, and Astrid Kruse Jensen), fact and fiction (Adam Jeppesen), nature and culture (Olafur Eliasson), movement and stillness (Stub Wittrup, Jacob Gils) etc.
These artists demand something of the viewer. They challenge our stereotypical assumptions as well as create wonder, insight and curiosity. And in their photographs the artists construct important, unique and new stories, moods and poetic expressions. The special aesthetic of photography provides the works with a distinctive, modern quality that make them works of art in their own right, and well-deserving of a long life on the wall.
Preview and Auction
All of the photographs can be seen at the preview at Bredgade 33 from Thursday 25 February to Monday 29 February. The photo auction will be held on Wednesday 9 March at Bredgade 33.
