Record sales in Vejle

The summer auction attracted much attention both at home and abroad, with many high hammer prices as a result.

Paintings

Not unexpectedly, the most expensive was P.S. Krøyers “Aftenstemning ved Skagen Strand med to soppende børn” (Evening on Skagen Beach with Two Paddling Children) with a hammer price of EUR 105,000, quite some more than the estimate of EUR 40,000-67,000 (Lot 1). From the hands of the same artist “Fiskerkone i kirkedragt fra Arildsleje” (Fisherman’s Wife in Church Dress from Arildsleje) sold for EUR 24,500 - the estimate was EUR 10,000-13,000 (Lot 11). Lauritz Tuxen’s “Skagen Strand i aftensol med folkeliv ved en optrukken båd” (Skagen Beach in Evening Sunshine with Crowd around a Beached Boat), estimated at EUR 13,000, was sold for EUR 16,500 (Lot 6), whilst a bunch of pink flowers painted by Helga Ancher estimated at EUR 2,000 sold for EUR 20,500, which was a record at auction for the artist (Lot 16).

Furniture

A white Steinway grand, estimated at EUR 5,350, was sold for EUR 9,950 (Lot 1088), whilst a grand piano of the same make but of hickory sold for EUR 7,250, compared to an estimate of EUR 8,050 (Lot 1089). A C. F. Harsdorff mirror and a J. C. Lillie console sold for EUR 9,400, which was EUR 6,700 above the estimate (Lot 1180), whilst a pair of Louis XVI mirrors and consoles changed hands for a hammer price of EUR 22,000; the estimate was EUR 16,500-20,000 (Lot 1181).

Modern art and design

Among modern paintings Albert Bertelsen’s “Dame i sort” (Lady in Black) took the laurels at EUR 8,300 as against an estimate of EUR 5,350 (Lot 420), whilst the artist’s “Konfirmation” (Confirmation) from 1964, estimated at EUR 3,350 went for EUR 5,900 (Lot 419). A pair of “NV-45” armchairs by Finn Juhl was the most expensive of the modern furniture lots with a hammer price of EUR 8,700; the estimate was EUR 6,700 (Lot 572).

Varia

A large Georg Jensen centrepiece, designed by Arno Malinowski, sold for EUR 28,000; the estimate had been EUR 40,000 (Lot 721), whilst a beautiful necklace with diamonds, pearls and enamel, which at one time had belonged to Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, was sold for EUR 4,550 - estimate EUR 2,650 (Lot 827). A Lionel model railway set was submitted for auction in a large old suitcase, which turned out to have originated form the Louis Vuitton Fashion House and which had on top of that belonged to the English poetess and feminist Mathilde Blind. The model railway set, which was estimated at EUR 2,000, sold for EUR 2,150 (Lot 693), whilst the Louis Vuitton suitcase, upon which we had placed a cautious estimate of EUR 670, reached EUR 4,400 (Lot 562).

Record for Bruun Rasmussen Vejle

On the three days the auction lasted hammer prices amounted to a total of EUR 1,65 million, which was record for the Vejle auction house.
