Stay up to Date with Danish Contemporary Art

A sphinx carrying the Mjolnir hammer on its back by Alexander Tovborg, a rider on horseback by Morten Schelde, a vase with crawling spiders by Klara Lilja and a weaved painting by the currently exhibited Ditte Ejlerskov. These works are just a few examples of the approximately 180 contemporary works of art that will be available at Online Auction on Tuesday 19 April at 7 pm.

Contemporary art has become a mainstay at our auctions. Right now, you have the chance to get a better understanding of the current art scene and become the owner of works that deal with the world around us and supply both reflection and entertainment. The auction contains many of the most well-established Danish contemporary artists such as Michael Kvium, Tal R, Trine Søndergaard & Nicolai Howalt and HuskMitNavn, but also a large number of younger contemporary artists. You can really get a sense of what is happening on the Danish art scene right now and at the same time become the owner of more accessible works of art – at least in terms of the price.

Mythology, Dissolvement, Ceramics and Weaving

One of the artists at the auction is Alexander Tovborg (b. 1983), whose thematic focal points are religion and mythology. With his characteristic colourful idiom, he also combines different mythologies in the work up for auction, where we meet a sphinx carrying an anvil and a hammer on the back – symbolic attributes that both leads one's thoughts towards Hephaestus from Greek mythology and Thor from the Norse Mythology. Morten Schelde (b. 1972) has the horse as a recurring motif in his monochrome works – here in the shape of a rider on horseback in a red landscape that seems dangerously close to dissolving both man and horse. The female contemporary artists include Klara Lilja (1989) with a ceramic piece, where she also works with a reference to the animal kingdom in the form of spiders that crawl around on the black-glazed vase. Ditte Ejlerskov (b. 1982) is currently experiencing critical acclaim with her solo exhibition "The Cult of Oxytocin" at Nikolaj Kunsthal in Copenhagen and has become one of the truly big names on the Danish art scene. She has an experimental approach to art and works across media such as painting, installation, video and text. Popular culture and the orchestration of the body and gender in the media is her main focus, and at this auction we can present the burgundy red painting "Yes Bitch Yes", where the letters in the word "Yes" are formed by cubes woven into the canvas in a lighter red colour.

Do You Want to See the Art Up Close?

Before the auction, you are welcome to visit the preview, where we exhibit all the works of art in either our showroom at Sundkrogsgade 30 in Copenhagen's Nordhavn or at Søren Frichs Vej 34 D in Aarhus. The preview will run from Friday 8 April until the day of the auction. Where a given work is on display can be seen in the description of the work at bruun-rasmussen.dk.
