Bid on the Books!
Pop Art, Expressionism, Concrete Art… At the March book auction, we celebrate the artbook and begin the sale of the Danish art collector couple Bente and Hans Weinberger's large collection of artbooks, which was focused on international and modern art of the 20th century.
Modern Books – Modern Art – Modern Times
It was the love of books that brought the couple together back in Copenhagen during the 1940s, where they both worked at Høst & Søn, Book Purveyor to the Danish Royal Court. Their shared passion for books and art stayed with them throughout their lives and resulted in an unusually well-equipped library of non-fiction. Many of the books also contain original prints by Picasso, Miró and Chagall. In addition to art collecting, Hans Weinberger was for many years chairman of the art society Gammel Strand. |

Royal Signatures from Danish Kings and a Queen
|
Until the invention of letterpress printing in the 15th century, handwriting was the only option when it came to preparing messages in letter or book form. Despite today's digital means of communication, handwriting has not been completely forgotten in the world of literature. At least not if the texts are written by "the right people". The auction offers several interesting manuscripts and handwritten greetings from people such as Kaj Munk, Gustav Wied and Arne Ungermann. A handwritten greeting on the back of a photograph from one of Denmark's greatest authors – Karen Blixen – as well as several royal signatures from Danish kings and a queen have also found their way to the auction. |
Books from the 16th Century and Onwards
In the older section of the auction, a number of books from Flemming Erik Pedersen's (1931-2020) large book collection are once again up for auction, including books from the 16th century and onwards. Flemming Pedersen worked as a book specialist here at Bruun Rasmussen for many years. In addition to the above lots, various reference works, fiction, rare bindings and vintage photographs are as always also sold at the auction. |
