On the Look-out for Contemporary Art

The demand for art that strikes a chord with our times is on the rise at the moment. After the first half of 2020, which turned out a bit differently than most expected, the art market has proved incredibly resilient in the midst of the global crisis. So, if you are contemplating a sale, now is the time to sell contemporary art at auction.

At the beginning of the year, we launched a new initiative that brought contemporary art to the forefront of our auctions. Since 2020, as you know, has ended up taking a bit of a detour from everyone’s plans, things have not gone completely as initially intended. But fortunately, we managed to host several popular auctions with contemporary art in March before and during Denmark’s lockdown. Interest in contemporary art was overwhelming despite the crisis, and the trend continued at this summer's Live Auction in June with several impressive sales.

Cathrine Raben Davidsen: "Laying on of hands", 2015. Estimate: DKK 100,000-125,000. Hammer price: DKK 220,000.

"Art that provides a mirror for us and our contemporary times has great potential in a time where 'business as usual' is down for the count. We can see that prices and interest in contemporary art have only gone up during the corona crisis. Therefore, we are looking forward to the Autumn Live Auction this September, where we again will place a special focus on contemporary art.”
