Beauty, Vanitas and Desire
The multi-talented Jørgen Boberg is the artist behind nine pieces of art at this summer's Online Auction on 28 July. The artist’s work revolves around surreal dream images, still lifes, landscapes, private and official portraits, paraphrases and depictions. The works up for auction offer an insight into his creative world and enormous virtuosity, both as a painter and a graphic artist.

Jørgen Boberg (1940-2009) used the world around him as inspiration, especially his wife Rie, his son Daniel and himself appear as models in the artwork. Still lifes and studies of fruit and vegetables also form a large part of Boberg's oeuvre. The paintings are often incredibly beautiful and clean in their details, but at the same time, they contain an element of something else, something dangerous, as it is seen in the Baroque Symbolism of Vanitas. The eroticism and pornography appear repeatedly in Boberg's motifs as an underlying and flowing force based on a desire in an ambiguous tension between art and life.
"Boberg communicates. He wants to connect with us somehow, and he especially wants to show us something. His pictures can be unpleasant to look at because they show us something we can't turn our backs on, pretend we don’t understand or relate to as devoted art-lovers or theorists. In any case, they are a personal matter between the painter and the image and between the image and us."
