“In Good Company” – Unique Thomas Helmig Photos

The mutual love between Mr Aarhus himself and his audience radiates out of all the one-off concert photographs, which are now being offered at Online Auction on the occasion of our Aarhus branch’s 10th anniversary on 30 March.

In 2018, the Aarhus photographer Jakob Mark was backstage during the Danish pop artist Thomas Helmig’s tour and captured many fantastic moments with Helmig and his band. Now the best photographs are being put up for an Online Auction.

Back to Aarhus

After a couple of years with very few concerts, Helmig released the album “Takker” (Thanks) in 2018. The dance-friendly album shot up the charts. This was reflected in the subsequent concerts, among which one was held at the opening of the Aarhus Festival, where ten thousand festive fans received Helmig in Byparken in Aarhus. One of the photographs is taken from the stage looking out over the sea of people in the audience, with Arne Jacobsen’s famous city hall tower in the background – it doesn’t get more “Aarhus” than that!

Father and Son on Stage

Another of the photographs shows Thomas Helmig embracing his son Hugo during a concert, which was a very special event for father and son alike. “They’ve practised together many times, but this was the first time that Thomas and Hugo would share the stage. I could sense the joy and excitement behind the scenes that night. Thomas was deeply moved, and for me as a photographer, it was also quite something to see the two of them together on and behind the stage. There was so much friendship and love between them, only made stronger by the fact that it took place on their home turf in Aarhus in front of a fantastic audience,” says Jakob Mark.

Signed by Helmig

In addition to the unique photographs, which are all personally signed by Helmig himself, the series has been published in limited-edition book form (1,000 copies), entitled “I godt selskab” (In Good Company). In the preface to the book, Helmig writes: “I’m looking back on four massive summer concerts, the recording and release of the album “Takker”, an indoor tour and a long, hot summer in the very best of company. I’m sitting with this book and looking at all the photos Jakob took of us during that time. Jakob is much more than a fly on the wall – he’s a ‘member of the club’, which has enabled him to capture us in a way no one else could have.”
