Pornosurrealism and Hyperrealism
With Wilhelm Freddie as a major role model, Lerfeldt gradually developed a recognisable style of his own. His recurring motifs often include scantily-dressed women and insects in a disturbing – partly surrealistic, partly realistic – universe, where lust and decay melt together.
80s art at full throttle
Lerfeldt had enormous range and he played a major and central role in the 80s art scene, where his pessimism, eroticised baroque staging, polished surfaces, sadomasochistic scenes and deeply pornofied models were very much the order of the day. His works often overstep the mark, but their execution is so artistically and photographically perfected that even the biggest sceptics become fascinated by them.
An eccentric outsider with clout
Lerfeldt only lived to the age of 42. His entire life was lived on – and very much over – the edge, marked by a hard, loveless upbringing, addiction and heroin abuse. When he died in 1989, he was still an outsider who, despite his status as a celebrity artist of sorts, never secured a major place for himself in the annals of art history. However, his best works are still highly sought after at auction, and we look forward to presenting this selection to buyers, collectors and auction aficionados.
