Once Upon a Time, There Was a Monkey ...

In connection with the book fair Bogforum and as a tribute to the illustrated children's book, a genuine treasure trove of beautiful works is now available from one of Denmark's most beloved illustrators, Jan Mogensen.

If you are dreaming of spiffing up your children’s room, their kindergarten or a third in bright colours and a sure style at a fair price, you now have the opportunity. Jan Mogensen is one of Denmark's most translated children's authors. With his imaginative and characteristic drawings, he has been a permanent fixture in the imagery of many children and young people’s world for the past quarter of a century.

Professor Teddy Bear, Victor Banana and the Rest of the Gang

Mogensen is especially known and loved for his illustrations of the series of Danish songbooks entitled Åh Abe (Oh Monkey), which in the 1990s helped breathe life into classic Danish children's songs, but he is also the creator of stories such as Professor Teddy Bear, the Pixie Book Alphabet, Victor Banana and many other illustrated children’s books. The illustrations, now up for auction, are carefully selected from the artist's own archive, and they are all signed.

Jan Mogensen's first illustrated children’s book, Har Du Sovet Godt Bamse? (Have You Slept Well, Teddy?), was published in 1981. Since then, the author has published a long list of illustrated children’s books, picture books, books for toddlers, posters, and album covers etc. In addition to his own stories, Jan Mogensen has illustrated the works of Hans Christian Andersen, Rudyard Kipling and Bjarne Reuter, as well as illustrations for DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation), the Danish Library Service, the Anemone Theatre and many others. Jan Mogensen has received numerous awards throughout his career, among others the Ministry of Culture's Illustrator Award and the Order of the Storyphant.

Prior to the auction, it is possible to see the works at a preview that takes place at our location on Baltikavej 10, 2150 Nordhavn – Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 October from 10 am to 5 pm and at Bogforum during the opening hours of the fair.
