Bottles in High Demand

Sought-after Wines
During the first half of the year, we have seen rising prices on the vast majority of wines. Burgundy is extremely sought after and is the top priority on most lips. The small, mythical area, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay produce the world's most beautiful wines with precisely these two grapes, has reached a global demand that far exceeds the modest production.
Champagne also seems as sought after as ever, and there are several reasons for its popularity. Firstly, the 2008 vintage is to blame for the rarely seen level of hype, and secondly, many more new and small producers have entered the market over the past 10 years. Manufacturers who previously sold their grapes to the big houses have now changed their business model to make and market their own wines under their own "flag" – at competitive prices and often of a high quality. In other words, there is "value for money" to be found.
The wines from Barolo and Barbaresco in Piemonte are also pulling ahead when it comes to demand. Considering what a bottle of good Piedmont wine costs, there are great bargains to be made – for the moment! During the coming six months, you will have some fine opportunities to bid on well-known, as well as lesser known wines from this area.
Jump on the Bandwagon
Vega Sicilia Unico seems to be reaching new heights in terms of its price. Even though the bodega has a nice quantity in its production, the wines are distributed very widely all over the world. Thus, each country is limited to a given amount of wine. If you have not tasted a 30- to 40-year-old Unico, you should jump on the bandwagon as soon as possible since we anticipate a further increase in prices. We are following the development with excitement.
At the same time, we would also like to invite you to look through your own wine cabinet or wine cellar, since it might be time to sell some of your excess bottles. As can be deduced from the above, the prices are quite favourable at the moment, the demand is intact and new buyers are joining in on the bidding all the time.
