Amber Fever!

Amber can sometimes be worth more than gold. We recently saw this at one of our own jewellery auctions where a necklace valued at DKK 3,000 was sold for DKK 115,000.

Amber necklace set with numerous oval milky amber beads. Length approx. 100 cm. Weight approx. 375 grams. The diameter of the beads is between 3-4.5 cm. Estimate: DKK 3,000. Just sold at an online auction for DKK 115,000.

The soft and golden stone from the sea can be expensive on the auction market. Many interested customers from Asia have helped raise the price of amber significantly. In some parts of Asia, amber is not only seen as a beautiful material but also believed to contain inherent qualities that can give the owner more energy and/or alleviate various diseases, such as arthritis and psoriasis.

"First, the Man Grabs Hold of the Amber, Then the Amber Grabs Hold of the Man"

These words come from an old Danish proverb, and there is something alluring about walking along a beach searching for amber, which is primarily found along the Scandinavian coastlines. Amber is considered a semiprecious stone that has been in the sea for more than 20 million years. The Danish amber comes from fossilized resin from large coniferous forests, which in the past covered much of the country.

Tears from the Sun God Apollo

The golden material from the sea has captivated and fascinated since the dawn of time. From the Bronze Age until the 17th century, amber was a religious symbol and one of the most expensive commodities to come out of Scandinavia. Over the years, many amber jewels have been found in royal tombs all over the world, and in ancient Greece, the Scandinavian amber was described as an expression of the sun's power and tears from the sun God Apollo.
