A Very Rare and Unopened Kiloware
Kiloware is not usually among the most popular philatelic items, nor are they frequent guests at stamp auctions. But at Sunday's Online Auction, we are offering several very rare stamps, including sealed Danish kiloware from the years 1947, 1951, 1955 and 1959.
Rare Kiloware with Unbroken SealFor many years, the Danish postal service had a tradition of selling their kiloware from address cards, packed in one-kilogram boxes and sealed with string and wax seal. The sale of the sealed boxes had its heyday in the 1980s, when demand was so great that many vintages had to be auctioned off by the postal service. The boxes can occasionally be found at stamp auctions today, but they often don’t bring in much more than the original purchasing price. However, sealed kiloware from the 1950s are extremely rare, so the lots at the upcoming auction with kiloware are therefore something of a rarity. The oldest of the kiloware is from 1947 making it 74 years old, and it is still sealed with string and an unbroken wax seal. |
