The Andersson Family Collection of Danish concrete artists

It is with great pleasure that we introduce The Andersson Family Collection of Danish concrete artists, which will be featured in an upcoming online auction on November 12. We’ll be selling 72 incredible artworks from the Andersson family, who for many years ran the Per Ekström Museum on the Swedish island of Öland. In addition, the Anderssons have built one of the largest collections of Danish concrete art. These artworks are extraordinary, and it is rare to encounter such a carefully curated selection of concrete works.

“Concrete art is characterised by a geometric idiom, cleansed of references to the external reality. Visually, Concrete artists work with points, strokes and lines, with basic geometric shapes such as the circle, square and triangle, as well as with the colours yellow, blue, red, white and black. Concrete art is objectless. It depicts nothing other than what it is, i.e. shapes and/or colours”.

The collection is rooted in an art movement that took shape in the late 1940s, born from the desire for a universal form of art that could be experienced and understood by all. The Danish artists embraced a rational, geometric style, free from references to external reality, while maintaining a close dialogue with the international art scene.

The Andersson family’s dedication is tastefully and impressively reflected in the collection’s carefully selected masterpieces by artists predominantly associated with the Linien I, II, and III art movements. Over the years, many of these works have been loaned to various museums and exhibitions and have featured prominently in art historical literature. The many works of art will be on display in "The Black Box" in Lyngby until the auction.
