Arctic Impressions: Greenlandic Art at Auction
On an Online Auction on April 21, we will offer a unique selection of Greenlandic decorative art – from paintings to soapstone figures, narwhal tusks, hunting tools, and much more.
In the auction, we have gathered a number of very special items that together tell the story of the country’s fantastic tradition of decorative art, applied art, hunting tools, and art – all rooted in nature and the indigenous peoples’ stories. A tradition that is still maintained today by internationally recognized artists such as Aka Høegh and Rasmus Lyberth.

Fascination with nature
The auction will also feature works by Danish artists who have traveled to Greenland over the years and fallen in love with the landscape, which has served as an endless source of inspiration in their art – from dramatic fjord landscapes and icebergs to life in the settlements and encounters with Greenlandic nature.
This includes, among others, Emanuel A. Petersen (1894-19148) – an artist whose oeuvre was deeply influenced by Greenland. Petersen embarked on a life-changing journey in 1921 when he accidentally secured a spot on a cargo ship bound for Greenland. His encounter with the majestic land left such an impression on him that, throughout his life, he produced up to 2,000 works depicting the Greenlandic nature.
