Rare Danish Christmas Sheets up for Auction on New Year’s Eve
The Christmas stamp is, as you may know, a Danish invention, which was originally conceived by Postmaster Einar Holbøl, who in the early 1900s got the idea of making a charity stamp for the benefit of children with lung diseases. The Christmas stamp was a great success from the get-go, and the first edition from 1904 was sold in 3.4 million copies. The sale provided a, for the day, huge profit of DKK 74,000, which was used to establish a tuberculosis sanatorium for children in the city of Kolding.
Today, none of the Danish Christmas stamps are particularly valuable, but the earliest editions are rare in complete sheets. At the upcoming online auction, we can present a fine selection of most of the annual editions from 1910 and onwards – many in perfect unfolded quality. In addition to the rich selection of Christmas stamps, the auction, as always, contains a large selection of high-quality Danish and international stamps and letters, as well as many fine collections.
New Year's Stamp Auction
This year you have the opportunity to celebrate New Year’s with a stamp auction at bruun-rasmussen.dk. This year's final online auction will be held on 31 December. Since we do not want to compete with the rest of your plans for New Year’s Eve, we have quite extraordinarily chosen to start the auction already at 1 pm. This will ensure that the final stamp purchases of the year can be made well before the guests arrive!
