The Wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
The prices of wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, commonly known as DRC, have gone up quickly. It is without doubt Burgundy's most esteemed wines that come from this area, and they use nothing else but the best terroirs. They are almost without exception located in Vosne-Romanée, have grand cru status and the winemakers even have a monopoly on their two best ones. They haven’t had to wait long for the prices to take off – they are at levels far above most of the other winemakers. Most recently, they have expanded the portfolio with a wine that, for them, is located in an unusual place. The place is Corton, and it is their bid for the best wine. The eternally thirsty wine-followers of this domain have now also bestowed their love – and money – on it. The first vintage was 2009, and the most recently released vintage is 2014, which we can now present at this auction. Speaking of 2014, we can offer almost the entire portfolio of wines from there in this vintage – all are in excellent condition. You can view them and the other DRC wines here.
Rarities and Delicious Drinking Wines
Perhaps the DRC was inspired by Krug since the DRC not long ago added their new wine to the portfolio. The same thing was done at Krug a few years before, and here the grape material was also Pinot Noir. But the comparison ends here because with Krug we have the incredibly rare Clos d'Ambonnay Champagne. The debut vintage is 1995 and it was released in 2007.
There is generally a high demand for the winemakers’ late released top wines. This time we also have a Latour 1975, which resembles the latest vintage. It could have been since it was released from Chateau Latour in 2016. There may be some among our readers who have never heard of Screaming Eagle – it is a cult wine if ever there was one. The production is very limited at approx. 800 cases of which very few find their way to our latitudes. It was awarded 100 Parker points (and also 100 from Antonio Galloni).
