Bracelet from the “King of Diamonds”
The diamond bracelet, which is the epitome of Harry Winston's classic elegance and style, is made of platinum and adorned with numerous emerald-cut diamonds of approximately 22.27 carats. It was made by the French jewellery designer Francois Tavernier in 1965 and was originally purchased at Harry Winston on 5th Avenue in New York.
The Man Behind the World's Most Famous Jewellery
The House of Harry Winston was founded in New York in 1932 by the gemmologist Harry Winston. He quickly became known as the "King of Diamonds" and "Jeweller to the Stars", and he is the man behind some of the world's most famous gems. His jewellery store has designed jewellery for famous people and royalty for decades, and he was the first in the world to lend diamonds to an award-winning actress at the Academy Awards in 1944, where Jennifer Jones wore his jewellery while accepting her Oscar. He also donated the large blue 45.52 carat Hope Diamond to The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC In 1958, thereby contributing to the establishment of the museum's "National Gem Collection".
The Jewellery of Movie Stars
In 1966, Harry Winston cut the legendary Taylor-Burton diamond of 68 carats, and the jeweller has for many decades delivered diamonds to numerous films, including "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953), where Marilyn Monroe mentions Harry Winston in her famous song "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend". In recent years, the House of Harry Winston has kept up with this tradition and contributed diamonds to the movie "Maid in Manhattan" (2002) and the TV series "Sex and the City" (1998-2002).
