Carpets from the 1950-70s

When looking through the Danish and international interior design magazines it quickly becomes apparent that carpets are back in style as part of the decor – both classic antique carpets and the modern Nordic carpets from the 1950-70s, with their simple geometric compositions and colour combinations that are ideal as a contrast to clean interior lines as well as to concentrate and provide colour to a room.

This trend has resulted in a great demand and impressive hammer prices. At the most recent international auction in Copenhagen some of the prices achieved were:

  • Barbro Nilsson: "Snäckorna". Handwoven wool carpet in "rölakan" flat weave technique. Blue background with polychrome pattern. Signed BN and AB MMF. Sold for: DKK 125,000.
