World Class Furniture Design

Kaare Klint's Ideals
Mogens Lassen, Edvard Kindt-Larsen and Mogens Koch all studied at The Danish School of Architecture’s Furniture School, which was created by Kaare Klint in 1924. In addition to an introduction to Klint's theoretical design method the students were given an opportunity to complete assignments for Kaare Klint's regular partner Rud. Rasmussen on Nørrebrogade in Copenhagen. Kaare Klint's method was rooted in a fundamental respect for historical style types and a curious interest in the innovative ideas of functionalism concerning rationality, common sense and honesty. The subtle balance between tradition and modernity seems to permeate all the offered furniture pieces that have found their way to the auction.
The Red Chair
During the years 1927-1932 Kaare Klint worked on a series of chairs that were dubbed "The Red chairs". The chairs exemplified Kaare Klint's penchant for English furniture culture, and in the red chairs you see clear connections to the English Chippendale chair, which Kaare Klint sought to improve through simplification and alignment. The chairs at the auction come in different versions with or without armrests.
Mogens Koch’s Cabinets
In his work on cabinets Mogens Koch was influenced by Kaare Klint’s systematic and mathematical principles, which were often determined by the furniture’s usability in relation to people’s patterns of movement. The cabinets, however, was also intended for a more practical context, since Mogens Koch initially considered using the cabinet in his own home at Bellahøj in Copenhagen. The cabinet has gradually become an auction classic, and we now offer two different sets at Sundkrogsgade in Copenhagen.
Exclusive Furniture Design
In Aarhus we have the pleasure of offering an exclusive collection of unused furniture that has previously been exhibited at an international showroom. From the collection we offer Kaare Klint and Edvard Kindt-Larsen's "Mix" armchair, Mogens Lassen’s "Egyptian Table" and Kaare Klint's elegant sofa model 4118 with a cross-frame. The furniture pieces are all from the latter part of Rud Rasmussen's production and were made in the historic facilities on Nørrebrogade in central Copenhagen. In the spring of 2016 Carl Hansen moved production of Rud Rasmussen's furniture to Fyn.
