Cartier, Danish Silver and Art Deco

International jewellers, Danish design and classic Art Deco jewellery. There is something for everyone at the upcoming international auction. Come by the preview in Bredgade, which opens today and lasts until Monday, and see all the jewellery on display.

International Brands

For the first time in the history of Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers we can present Cartier's legendary "Panthère" ring at auction. The ring is studded with numerous brilliant-cut diamonds and two emeralds that mimic a panther's intense gaze. The animal is a timeless icon that symbolizes wildness and elegance at the same time.

Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 and has since then produced some of the world's most exclusive jewellery and wristwatches. The panther was used for the first time as a decorative element in a wristwatch in 1914, and it has since then been an icon for the famous jeweller and a metaphor for the feminine expression, which is so characteristic of Cartier.

If you enjoy jewellery from the international brands, we are also offering a beautiful flower ring from Chanel named "Camélia", set with both black and white diamonds, as well as a couple of classic diamond-stud earrings from Bulgari. If you enjoy unconditional luxury, we are offering a couple of extremely exclusive diamond earring studs of approximately 3.01 and 3.02 ct – a perfect couple with a resemblance, one rarely sees. With an estimate of DKK 350,000 these earring studs are the auction's most expensive piece of jewellery.

Danish Design

The Danish jewellery designers are well represented at the upcoming auction with classic jewellery design in sterling silver – from Erik Magnussen's richly detailed and insect-shaped Art Nouveau jewellery from about 1909, to Nanna & Jørgen Ditzel’s stylish "Vertebrae" necklace and Astrid Fog’s elegant bracelet, both of which were designed for Georg Jensen after 1945. They are all distinctive pieces of jewellery that have stood the test of time.

Erik Magnussen in particular belonged among the pioneers of Danish silver work at the beginning of the century. He produced a series of imaginative jewellery with motifs from the world of insects, which was inspired by among others the work of French multi-artist and designer René Lalique (1860-1945). Lalique is today regarded as one of France's foremost Art Nouveau jewellery designers, and he has created exclusive jewellery for Cartier and others.

Art Deco

The decorative jewellery from the Art Deco period of the 1920-30s is extremely sought after right now. They are popular among fashion-conscious women who enjoy a personal style with an attention to detail. At the upcoming auction there is a fine selection of these pieces of jewellery including a festive Art Deco necklace with a pearl and diamond studded pendant in the shape of a tassel in classic Charleston style. The auction also offers an exotic Art Deco jade and diamond brooch, an organic Art Deco diamond ring and a stylish Art Deco diamond bracelet.

Art deco was a style within jewellery, decorative art and architecture during the period between 1910 and 1940. It culminated in Europe with the large decorative art exhibition in Paris in 1925, Exposition Internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes. The style is characterized by cubist and geometric shapes, but it is also inspired by decorative elements from Egypt, India and the Far East, which can also be seen in the auction’s fine selection of Art Deco jewellery.
