Frederik Bruun Rasmussen with Tal R and Camilla Lolk Nortvig from The NGO for Children exposed to Domestic Violence.
On Friday 23 May, Frederik Bruun Rasmussen will act as auctioneer at Børsen in Copenhagen, when the NGO for Children exposed to Domestic Violence holds a major private charity auction to raise funds for its work. Up for auction is the portrait of Medina painted by Tal R especially for the cause and donated to Children exposed to Domestic Violence. The full hammer price will go to the organisation, and no fees will be charged in connection with the sale.
A strong, creative collaboration
It did not take Tal R long to think it over when the NGO for Children exposed to Domestic Violence approached him to ask if he would donate a painting to a charity auction. He was actually the one who suggested using Medina as a model for his painting, as she is an active ambassador for the organisation. She agreed, and the two creative forces met at Tal R’s studio in February to make a decision as to the shape the painting would take – a portrait of the nude Medina in a bedroom interior. The striking painting, executed in Tal R’s habitual brightly-coloured, stylised idiom, is now complete.
Frederik Bruun Rasmussen also serves as an ambassador for the NGO for Children exposed to Domestic Violence and is therefore delighted to act as auctioneer at the charity auction.
Preview and booking of telephone bidding
The painting can be viewed from 12–22 May here at Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers, Sundkrogsgade 30 in Copenhagen’s Nordhavn.
The charity auction will be a closed event for specially invited guests on 23 May at Børsen in Copenhagen. Interested buyers who are not invited to the event have the possibility of submitting a telephone bid on the painting by contacting Camilla Lolk Nortvig from the NGO for Children exposed to Domestic Violence ahead of the auction at: camilla@familievold.dk or tel.: +45 2980 5550.
About the organisation
Domestic violence and dating violence are a widespread but hidden problem in Denmark. There are, on average, two pupils in every classroom who live in the shadow of domestic violence. Exposure to violence is a hugely taboo subject, so the many young people subjected to physical, psychological and/or sexual dating violence every year go without the help and support they need. The NGO for Children exposed to Domestic Violence was founded in 2002 with the aim of actively preventing domestic and dating violence by providing information and counselling, etc. The organisation relies on voluntary work and its activities are dependent on the financial support of foundations, sponsorships, donations, membership contributions and public support for specific projects.
