Dolphin on the loose ...again

Hans J. Wegner masterpiece to be offered in the spring 2006 modern sale.

Wegner's “dolfin” at the Modern auction 756 April 2006.

Following the great interest in this piece . Bruun Rasmussen auctioneers  are happy and proud to be able to present the sofar unseen long “dolphin” chaiselongue, that was also designed  by Hans J. Wegner for the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild exhibtion in 1950.

“It was hanging on the wall when we saw it. at “den permanente”. We had our doubts as it was very expensive, but it was so beautiful.”  This is how the current owners decribe their first meeting with the chair in 1955 at a sales exhibtion at the retailer “den permanente” which sold only handcrafted pieces from the best danish designers in the postwar era.

Since then it has remained in use up until a few years ago, when it was folded together to save space.

A remarkable proof of the functional qualities in Hans J Wegners  work , even though this chair probably has not been made in more than 2-3 examples.

That, it is this chair from which the name dolphin originates is clear, it is the first expression of a basic theme, that Wegner elaborates in subsequent deck chairs.

The Long dolpin is certainly the rarest piece from Hans Wegners to be offered in an auction, that it probably also is the most beautiful is another matter.

Bruun Rasmussen are happy to be chosen to sell this museum-piece.
