Tinkling clear glass
One of the true gems of the collection is a beautiful and delicate Holmegaard mug. This type was highly popular in the period from the 1860s to the late 19th century, and it is hard to escape the conclusion that this interest has been reawakened today. The mug has a barrel-shaped profile, a mould-blown, ribbed base and a mounted handle. In the Holmegaard catalogue for 1853, it is listed as “Glass with Handle No. 2 “. The specimen included in this collection is cut and inscribed “Caroline Christiansen 1864”, delicately wreathed with a beautiful garland of willow leaves. This cutting is characteristic of Iserhorst who worked at Holmegaard Glassworks from 1846 to 1888. The mug was formerly part of Peder Munk’s famous glass collection.
Another gem of the collection is the wedding glass “Slange Kelchen”. This tapering glass is made from slightly bluish glass and has a conical cup and a thin spiralling air bubble running all through the stem. The front is cut with a crowned double-monogram in cartouche, and presumable this glass derives from Nøstetangen, approximately 1760-70.
In addition, a wide selection of e.g. “Naked Virgin”, “Freemason glass”, “Silver Pyramids”, “Dog-Shaped Decanters” and much more is presented at the auction.
You may inspect “The White Gold” as of May 2nd 2007 in connection with classic auction No. 110 in Vejle.
