A look back at Sunday’s auction
Before we start telling you all about auction 1345, allow us to spend a few moments on some of the most exciting hammer prices from the auction just concluded. Before the auction, we were really excited to see how the unique La Tache bottles from 1923, 1945 and 1947 would be received. Imagine, then, our delight at them achieving a total hammer price 32% above the estimate! We were surprised that vintage 1945 went for twice as much as vintage 1923. DKK 57,500 including fees was what the buyer had to part with to acquire this bottle, and the explanation for this is most likely that there is something especially magic about vintage 1945, and that the quality of the wine is supposedly extraordinarily high. At the upcoming auction 1345 on Sunday 10 November, you will find the last bottle of 1945 and 1947 from this collection, and we predict that we will not be seeing these bottles again for quite some time.
A unique collection of DRC wines
Auction 1345 is every bit as exciting as the previous auction, but for slightly different reasons… For the first time, we have all the red Grand Cru wines from Domaine Romanée-Conti in their original wooden cases in the finest vintage 2009, including two Romanée-Conti, six La Tache and six bottles from the newly acquired share of Corton. All of the bottles from this consignment are in the very best condition, and they come with our warmest recommendation to all Burgundy enthusiasts.
Wines from the famous Massandra Collection
Most wine lovers feel a sense of history when drinking an old bottle of wine. It is as if the immanent fascination with bygone times is wonderfully brought back to life in the company of this wine. This time, the auction features an impressive number of bottles bringing together a sense of history and the vinous experience in perfect harmony. There are 28 different lots of these wines, each consisting of three bottles, from a vast wine collection that originally belonged to the Russian Tsar Nicholas II. The wines have lain safe and sound, while the world around them has undergone immense change in these latitudes. Thankfully, over the years, these bottles have been protected from the social upheavals, and as a result we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy them today. The wines from this collection date right back to 1914 and are predominantly sweet wines made from known or variants of known grapes, and they are definitely worth getting acquainted with.
The auction’s other wines
Wine was also produced as far back as 1790, and a bottle of grapes from that year is the doyen of the auction. We think we have put together a pretty nice auction (if we do say so ourselves!) – not least as regards the Bordeaux section which this time has a wide range of both younger and affordable wines as well as older wines with fine provenance. Examples of the latter include a collection of chateaux such as Montrose, Haut Brion, Palmer and Lafite Rothschild in their top vintages between 1928 and 1961, as well as a collection of whole crates of Lynch Bages, Leoville Las Cases, Latour and Margaux, for example. All the above wines come from excellent private cellars.
We wish you the best of luck with your bidding!
Kind regards
