A collection of verge pocket watches

An unusual private collection of primarily 18th century pocket watches with verge escapement in gold and silver cases, has just been put up for auction at the online auction 1224.

Used by men and women, this fine collection consists of pocket watches made by both Danish and international watchmakers.
One of the highlights is a gold pair cased pocket watch with movement signed by Danish watchmaker Pierre Charlo, not to mention the gold pocket watch with perpetual calendar and movement signed by the Belgian watchmaker Hubert Sarton à Liege.

The auction also features pocket watches with desirable complications such as repetition and decorations that reflect the era – both of which are beautifully combined in the French Charles Oudin pocket watch with silver case, engraved with a dramatic scene depicting French and British infantry on a battlefield.
