Rhinoceros cup

Lately, a number of rhinoceros cups with various carvings have been sold at Bruun Rasmussen. On this particular cup the carving is stylistically very pure which must appeal to the serious collector. Rhinoceros cups were thought to have a number of effects, ranging from magical to medical uses. Pulverised horn was used as an aphrodisiac while carved horn would detect poison and cure cholera.
