Six Scimitar chairs
The Scimitar Chair is designed by Jørgen Kastholm and Preben Fabricius in 1963 and manufactured by the master upholsterer Ivan Schlechter. The name comes from the curved form of a Turkish sword, called a scimitar.
Ivan Schlechter was considered to be the most skilled craftsman in leather upholstery of the time and he is active to this very day. Schlechter has told that the production of the foot itself was very complicated; it was cast three times in stainless steel and subsequently welded together. The leather upholstery was hand sewn.
The elegant chair attracted great attention when presented at the Furniture Fair in Cologne, Germany, in 1964 and it became a turning point in the careers of Kastholm and Fabricius.
