Contemporary art for African children

Ewiket Lehibret

Showing great perseverance a number of private enthusiasts have succeeded in mobilising an impressive number of recognised contemporary artists, whose works are being sold in collaboration with Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers.

The Ethiopian expression “ewiket lehibret” means “knowledge for all”, and the organisation “Ewiket Lehibret Support Association”, or ELSA for short, is an internationally recognised NGO, formed and run by private individuals with the aim of supporting and implementing the building of good quality schools in Ethiopia. The goal is to give as many Ethiopian children as possible a decent education in order to promote financial and democratic progress in the country.

The auction

Support the projects now by bidding on your favourite piece in the online pre-auction. All bids received will be included in the physical auction, which takes place at 2pm on 2 April at “Kunsten” in Aalborg. Bruun Rasmussen will not be charging any commission in connection with the auction – the final hammer price will go in full to the projects in Ethiopia.

Up to and including Wednesday 16 March, Bruun Rasmussen Aarhus will be exhibiting a selection of the works received. Here you can get an impression of the high quality of the auction, which among other things features no less than four works by Olafur Eliasson. The world famous artist is far from alone in making fabulous donations and more than 91 arguments for visiting Kunsten in Aalborg will be hung for preview from 22 March.

What is it worth?

On the day of the actual auction on 2 April, it is a good idea to arrive at the museum in good time. From 11am, Bruun Rasmussen will be holding a “What is it worth?” valuation event. In addition to the valuation experts within art and antiquities, experts from our recently enhanced departments for stamps and coins will also be present.
