Olaf Rude

One of Olaf Rude’s works from the island of Bornholm is now being sold at online auction number 504. Precisely these landscape paintings from Bornholm became much sought after quite early on.

Olaf Rude (1886-1957) was originally born in Estonia but moved with his family to Frejlev on the island of Lolland while still a child.

Olaf Rude is one of the classic modernists who around 1908 founded the group of artists known as “De Tretten” (The Thirteen), a salon de refusés which included such figures as Jais Nielsen, Einar Utzon Frank, William Scharff, and others.

In 1924, Olaf Rude stayed for a long time on Bornholm to follow in his former partner Isakson’s footsteps. Rude won early recognition for his Bornholm landscapes.

One of his Bornholm works will now be sold at the online auction during week 4: “Parti fra Bornholm” (View from Bornholm). Oil on canvas. Signed Olaf Rude 25. 97 cm x 127 cm.
